Frequently Asked Questions

A little clarity.
Before your first step.

Answers to common questions about joining, gatherings and our approach to the craft.

How do I join the Brotherhood?

Get in touch through our Contact page. If there is a good fit, an Elder will arrange an informal conversation over coffee in a public coffee shop so you can learn more.

How old do I have to be?

You must be 18 or older to apply.

Do you offer distance training?

No. We meet face to face, and applicants must be willing and able to travel to Manchester for gatherings.

Are there covens in other locations?

The Brotherhood itself is based in Manchester. We are part of The Covens of the Sacred Spirit, whose wider family of distinct covens spans Manchester and Chester. Each coven has its own identity and local leadership.

When do you meet?

We meet each month for a learning session, celebrate the festivals of the Wheel of the Year and meet for social events.

What happens at learning sessions?

Sessions explore the topics of the craft covered by our 20-degree learning journey, combining study with practical experience and guidance.

Must Cernunnos be my primary deity?

No. Cernunnos is the Brotherhood’s patron, but your choice of primary deity or deities — including choosing none — is personal. Your spiritual path is your own.

How large is a coven?

Traditionally, covens are full at thirteen members. This helps keep relationships personal and the group’s energies in harmony. This is a traditional coven size, rather than a statement of our current membership.

What if I do not enjoy groups?

Brotherhood involves regular group gatherings and shared experiences. If you prefer an entirely solitary practice, a coven may not be the right fit for you.
